A long ribbon, draped across the rocks and islets connecting Norway’s mainland to the island of Averøy, the “Atlantic Road” is one of the most scenic drives in the world. Drive along this stunning feat of engineering for magnificent views as you drive down the gently winding road and across bridges jutting out over the sea.

Day 1

DEPART FOR OSLO, NORWAY

Enjoy a private car ride to the airport. Meet your Journey Manager, fellow travellers and board your flights to Norway. Upon arrival, settle in at the hotel and relax with us at a welcome dinner.

Overnight flight

Start your Journey with us by enjoying a private car pick up service from your home. Upon arrival at the airport, guests departing from the Toronto airport are assisted with their check-in. Meet your Journey Manager and fellow guests, and board your flights to Norway. Our Journey Manager travels with you to take care of all the details, allowing you to embrace your Journey.

OSLO

After arriving and settling in at our hotel, spend the day at your leisure exploring the natural beauty that lies within and around this special town. This evening, join us for a casual welcome dinner. (L,D)

Hotel Bristol, Oslo (2 nights)

On arrival in Oslo, we are brought to our hotel. With its Louis XVI revival style and characteristic clock tower, the Hotel Bristol Oslo is located right on Karl Johans gate, moments from the Royal Palace, Nobel Peace Building, the harbour, and the peaceful city parks. Explore this ancient city, founded in 1040, at leisure this afternoon. Join us this evening for dinner at the hotel.

Day 3

TOURING OSLO

This morning, we tour the city, discover the harbour area and Frogner Park. Enjoy the afternoon at your leisure to explore the Scandinavian capital and indulge in Norway’s culinary delicacies. (B,D)

Surrounded by mountains and sea, Oslo’s high rises reveal a bustling metropolis boasting innovative architecture with pockets of quaint historic buildings and peaceful urban parks. This morning, enjoy a tour of this Scandinavian capital. We visit many of the highlights of Oslo including Frogner Park, the harbour area, and downtown Oslo. This afternoon is at your leisure. Tonight we regroup for dinner at our hotel tonight.

Day 4

RAIL JOURNEY TO BERGEN

We board a train and travel ‘Over the Roof of Norway,’ to Bergen. We then tour Bergen before boarding the MS Kong Harald, your home for the next eleven days. (B,D)
MS Kong Harald (11 nights)

Today, we board the train and travel ‘Over the Roof of Norway,’ to Bergen. This railroad adventure is the longest, high mountain stretch of railway in Europe and is recognized as being one of the top twenty railway experiences in the world. On arrival in Bergen, we are introduced to this beautiful city by our local guide before we board the MS Kong Harald, your home for the next eleven days. All meals will be served on board unless otherwise indicated.

Day 5

ÅLESUND

Awaken in Ålesund where we head ashore to appreciate the art nouveau style of the city, climb towards Fjellstua for a panoramic view and visit Waldehuset. (B,L,D)

Awaken to Norway’s fresh sea air. We arrive in Ålesund this afternoon, a small fishing centre. We head ashore to appreciate the art nouveau style of the city that was rebuilt after a devastating fire in 1904.

Board our private train to explore Ålesund, we pass Arbeideren, the oldest community house of Ålesund, the old city hall, the marketplace and the prison. After visiting Borgundsvegen, the longest street in Ålesund, we climb towards Fjellsyua where we take in the beautiful views of the city, mountain and ocean. We also visit Waldehuset, a wooden house that miraculously avoided the flames of the city fire.

TRONDHEIM

Stroll through Trondheim and see the Ringve Museum and Nidaros Cathedral and listen to the music of local students, Admire the colourful houses, quaint waterways and charming cobbled streets that make this town picture-perfect! (B,L,D)

Founded in 997 and capital of Norway during the Viking Age, Trondheim is steeped in history and culture. The colourful houses, quaint waterways and charming cobbled streets make this town picture-perfect!

We see the remarkable music history at the Ringve Museum, where local music students play for us. We continue our exploration to Norway’s largest medieval church, Nidaros Cathedral, the site of the coronation of the kings of Norway and the home of the crown jewels.

Hurtigruten Tradition – Arctic Circle Competition
Sometime tomorrow morning, the MS Kong Harald will cross the Arctic Circle. Participate in the ship-wide competition by placing a guess of what time that will happen.

Day 7

CROSSING THE ARCTIC CIRCLE

Today celebrate with King Neptune the crossing of the Arctic Circle. Enjoy free time in Bodø and Svolvær. End the day with a drink in a glass made of ice. Skål! (B,L,D)

Have your cameras ready today as we visit five fantastic ports. This morning, we cross over the Arctic Circle and celebrate with a special ceremony where the winner of the Arctic Circle Competition is announced. After lunch, we call on Bodø in Nordland county, where you can enjoy some free time to explore. Later this afternoon, we may see the majestic Lofoten wall which stretches from Moskenes in the south to the Raftsund in the north. This evening enjoy free time in the quaint fishing village of Svolvær. Enjoy a drink served in a glass made of ice.

TROMSØ

In Tromsø, we visit the Arctic Cathedral with its magnificent stained-glass window, and Journey to the summit of Storsteinen Mountain by cable car to see the spectacular view from the top. (B,L,D)

In Tromsø, our guide takes us to the Arctic Cathedral, a beautiful and modern church inspired by the local Norwegian faith and nature. Tromsø is affectionately known as the Arctic capital. Surrounded by majestic mountains, scenic fjords and picturesque islands, Tromsø’s many attractions offer history, daring architecture, wildlife, science, culture and impressive vistas.

We venture off to explore this fascinating university city affectionately called ‘The Paris of the North.’ Visit the Arctic Cathedral with its magnificent stained-glass window, and Journey to the summit of Storsteinen Mountain by cable car to see the spectacular view from the top.

BARENTS SEA & NORTH CAPE

We travel through the fishing villages of the Finnmark region. On the island of Magerøya we visit the North Cape Pavilion and watch a 125° panorama film about the seasons. We continue out into northern Norway for a visit with the local Sami peoples. (B,L,D)

Today, we sail the Barents Sea and travel through the Finnmark region, sailing past many small fishing villages both old and active.

We go ashore on the island of Magerøya and Journey to visit the North Cape. Here, you have time to explore the North Cape Pavilion and view the 125° panorama film. We continue out into the wilds of northern Norway for a visit with the local Sami peoples. The Sami have been residents in northern Scandinavia for generations and have traditionally been reindeer herders. We then rejoin our ship in Honningsvåg.

KIRKENES

Our ship arrives in Kirkenes. Explore this remote northern community at your leisure. We depart Kirkenes, stopping in Vardø for some free time. (B,L,D)

Our ship arrives in Kirkenes today. Here we are further north than any part of mainland Canada or the tip of Siberia! Enjoy your free time to explore this remote northern community. We depart Kirkenes to begin our southbound voyage. This afternoon, we stop in Vardø for more free time exploring.

Day 11

HAMMERFEST 70° 39′ 48″N

The world’s most northern town, Journey through Hammerfest at your leisure and discover this historical and unique place. Make your way towards the local meeting spot at the town’s square or harbour. (B,L,D)

Hammerfest is the northernmost town in the world and offers many attractions. Enjoy a morning of leisure where you may choose to visit the Museum of Reconstruction, see the monuments in the town square, or simply wander through the shops. This is also home to the Royal and Ancient Polar Bear Society, ‘Isbjørnklubben.’

Day 12

UNIQUE CONCERT & LOFOTEN AQUARIUM

Feast your eyes on the spectacular Lofoten Islands before we tour Vesterålen and join a concert in an old herring oil tank. We return to the ship for dinner before a visit to the Lofoten Aquarium. (B,L,D)

In Risøyhamn, we depart on our sightseeing tour of Vesterålen. Arriving in Melbu, enjoy a concert in an old herring oil tank at the Neptun Herring Oil Factory. In Svolvær, our overland Journey continues through the stunning wall of mountains that is Lofoten.

Day 13

DAY AT SEA: THE ARCTIC CIRCLE

This morning, we cross back over the Arctic Circle, then we call on Sandnessjøen for an early afternoon stroll. On departure, watch for the ‘Seven Sisters’ peaks and Torghatten, the famous mountain with a hole through it. After dinner explore the pretty town of Rorvik. (B,L,D)

Today is a day for relaxing as we cross back over six ports of call and take in the spellbinding scenery. We pass the Arctic Circle again and around lunchtime, we call on Sandnessjøen to enjoy an early afternoon stroll. The Helgeland coast has hundreds of islets, fertile farmland and steep granite walls. Do not miss the majestic chain of peaks named the ’Seven Sisters’, as well as the characteristic Torghatten, the famous mountain with a hole through it. After dinner we call on the pretty town of Rørvik.

TRONDHEIM & ‘THE ATLANTIC ROAD’

In Trondheim, wander into the town with your Journey Manager, or enjoy at your leisure. We then visit Kristiansund before driving the Atlantic Road for the scenic views. (B,L,D)

Enjoy free time in Trondheim early today. This afternoon we call onKristiansund, an ancient town situated on three islands. The people here have lived around this harbour for at least eight thousand years.

We drive the world famous ‘Atlantic Road.’ Known as one of the most scenic drives in the world, zig zagging over bridges that burst out into the sea. This road was chosen as ‘Norway’s Construction of the Century’ and links many small towns between Kristiansund and Molde. We return to the ship in Molde, well known for its unspoiled views of the Alps of Romsdalen.

EXPLORING BERGEN

We disembark the MS Kong Harald and transfer to our hotel, located amidst the historical buildings of Bryggen. The rest of the day is yours to discover this UNESCO World Heritage Site. This evening, enjoy dinner at our hotel. (B,L,D)

FREE DAY IN BERGEN

Enjoy a day to relax and explore Bergen at your leisure. With many beautiful parks, museums, shops, and attractions, the city is alive with activity. his evening, join your fellow guests and Journey Manager for our farewell dinner. (B,D)

Today you are free to explore the beautiful city of Bergen at your leisure. An important seaport and Norway’s capital through the early Middle Ages, today Bergen is the 2nd largest city in Norway and is known for its annual International Festival, KODE art museums, and stunning views. This evening enjoy our farewell dinner.
