The vastness of the Highlands and tranquility of the lochs are something to behold in Scotland. Cruise the infamous Loch Ness towards the ruins of Urquhart Castle. Board the stunning Jacobite Steam Train for an unforgettable Journey along the world-renowned West Highland Line. Witness the majesty of “the three sisters” from the village of Glencoe, before cruising Loch Lomond.

Our local Blue Badge Scottish guide greets us at the airport. Board our coach for a short journey to our hotel. Enjoy a light lunch and relax in Edinburgh this afternoon. Then, join your fellow guests this evening for a casual welcome dinner.

EXPLORING EDINBURGH
Today, we explore one of the United Kingdom’s most famous cities. Explore the closes (Scottish alleyways) along the famed Royal Mile before our visit the Royal Yacht Britannia. A Royal residence for over 40 years, The Royal Yacht Britannia sailed over 1,000,000 nautical miles on 968 state visits with the Royal Family where they entertained prime ministers and presidents. Now a five-star visitor attraction, you can discover across five decks stories of life at sea for both the Royal Family and the 220 Royal Yachtsmen who served on board. Following lunch, we visit Edinburgh Castle, a mighty fortress, the defender of the nation that has dominated the skyline for centuries. This evening’s dinner is just a short walk from our hotel.

THE HIGHLANDS & INVERNESS
Relax as we travel by coach through the stunning scenery to the impressive Scone Palace, where we enjoy a traditional lunch and a tour of antiques and rare artifacts. We continue to Inverness to board the lovely Lord of the Glens, our home for the next seven nights. This beautiful family owned, and operated vessel is perfect for exploring this region of Scotland. This evening, we enjoy a welcome reception and dinner whilst remaining berthed in the city.

CULLODEN
This morning visit Culloden, the infamous battlefield where Bonnie Prince Charlie’s Jacobite forces were defeated in 1746 and observe the ancient standing stones of Clava Cairns. We set sail this afternoon on the Caledonian Canal, built between 1803 and 1822 to connect the Great Glen’s four lochs. Entering Loch Ness, we pass the romantic ruins of Urquhart Castle, before ascending the impressive flight of locks that runs through the heart of Fort Augustus, the scenic and historic village, where we remain overnight.
Urquhart Castle
The magnificently situated Urquhart Castle, on the banks of Loch Ness, was once one of Scotland’s largest castles. Urquhart witnessed considerable conflict throughout its 500 years as a medieval fortress from the 13th to 17th centuries.

NEPTUNE’S STAIRCASE
Continue along the canal through Loch Oich, ascending to 106 feet at Laggan Locks after gliding serenely along the tree-lined section known as Laggan Avenue. Onwards through picturesque Loch Lochy, before descending Neptune’s Staircase, a set of eight interconnected locks dropping 64 feet into the sea loch at Corpach. After lunch, we take the West Highland railway, famous from the Harry Potter films for the Hogwarts Express, over the renowned viaduct to beautiful Glenfinnan. Our overnight mooring is in Corpach.
West Highland Line
One of the top railway journeys in the world, this section of the famous line has achieved worldwide coverage through the Harry Potter films and the Jacobite Steam Train. The fabulous scenery surrounds us and includes the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct, a late Victorian construction and a site to behold. Over 100 feet in height and made up of 21 arches, this viaduct is a beautiful piece of engineering and a glorious sight.
